About Us
Welcome!
MeltDebt.com was founded by Bob Harvey, a successful small business owner and real estate investor, and Scott Harvey, a successful mortgage professional, and before that, the founder of a successful computer services company.
Bob lives in Tustin, CA, with his wife Marilyn, to whom he has been happily and proudly married for nearly 47 years.
Scott and his wife Catherine and the world’s cutest granddaughters live just down the freeway in Laguna Niguel, CA.
Concerned with the high levels of personal debt, the lack of understanding of the importance of retirement planning and the society’s general lack of understanding of basic finance and economic principles, our intent is to teach and assist people to understand and take control of their finances.
Future projects will include teaching junior high school and high school students the fundamentals of finance and economics, which they’re certainly not getting now. You know, real complicated stuff like balancing a checkbook, and understanding that you actually have to pay the bank back for the things you bought with your credit card.
Maybe also a few little basics about the cost of borrowing money, and how small savings amounts can compound dramatically over time, and why prices go up and down, and things like that. You might be amazed at how many people have no clue about some of this.
To help us in those goals, we are still figuring out exactly what our “tool kit” will look like. As you might notice, there is nothing for sale right now - we are just going to publish some financial information that we think everybody should have. Down the road, we’ll make some of our tools available for free and will probably also have some things we develop that we’ll charge a small amount for.
We’ll also probably refer you to some valuable books, services, programs and other tools in the future as well. Some of those we might be paid a small “referral fee” for, which helps support this website. When/if that happens, we’ll make you a promise - we’ll never refer you to something that isn’t a wonderful product or service. We’ll always check it out first, and make sure that the company we tell you about has an absolute satisfaction policy so there is no risk to you.
We are also talking to a couple of formal financial education programs right now. If we determine that they really deliver on their promises, we might also try to work out a partnership with those programs for our blog readers. This would be a longer-term, higher cost commitment, so it is something we’ll probably spend quite a while reviewing and vetting before we tell anybody about it.
But don’t worry - we won’t be smacking you in the face with marketing and trying to sell you all the time. We’ll mention things from time to time. If you like them, great. If you don’t, fine. We feel honored and privileged just to have you reading what we write, and we won’t mess up that relationship!
Oh, and by the way, MeltDebt.com donates 5% of its profits to bona fide charitable causes.
